Double-Decker Buses May Return to City

A New York City Transit official said that the city is considering bringing back double-decker buses, which were once present on the streets, but have now become synonymous with London and other European capitals. At a Metropolitan Transportation Authority meeting yesterday, the president of New York City Transit, Howard Roberts Jr., said the agency was considering restarting a pilot program for buses to run on Fifth Avenue. Officials said they had not yet chosen a bus manufacturer nor did they say when the pilot program would begin. Up until the 1950s, New York had double-decker buses along Fifth Avenue.
