A drunken driver hit and killed a woman on a sidewalk in Queens late Saturday night after losing control of his vehicle, police officials said. The driver, Michael Barlow, was traveling north on Cross Bay Boulevard in the Ozone Park section of Queens when he lost control of his 1993 Nissan and hit Teresa Mankarious, 50, police said.
Mankarious, who was standing in front of a diner at the corner of 107th Avenue, was struck when Mr. Barlow’s car skidded onto the sidewalk, police said.
Mr. Barlow is charged with vehicular manslaughter, reckless endangerment, and driving under the influence of alcohol, police said. When police arrived at the scene shortly after the incident, Mr. Barlow showed signs of intoxication. Mr. Barlow was brought to a highway patrolman trained in administering sobriety tests. A Breathalyzer test showed that Mr. Barlow had a blood alcohol level two times the legal limit, police said.
