A city firefighter was stabbed in Queens yesterday after he attacked a man, police officials said.
The firefighter, Harry Pheiffer, 27, was stabbed twice after he and a friend, 27-year-old Nicola Ciaramella, attacked 31-year-old Ronald Buonagura at his home in the Howard Beach section of Queens, police said.
Wielding a large shovel, one of the assailants struck Mr. Buonagura, who then pulled a knife and stabbed both men, police said.
Police suspect that Mr. Pheiffer aided his friend in the attack after a dispute arose between Messrs. Ciaramella and Buonagura over a woman.
After Mr. Buonagura placed a 911 call, Messrs. Phieffer and Ciaramella were arrested at Jamaica Hospital, where they had driven to get treatment for the knife wounds, police said.
Mr. Pheiffer sustained two stab wounds to the left side of his stomach, while Mr. Ciaramella was stabbed once in the body, police said. Both are in stable condition.
Messrs. Ciaramella and Buonagura were each charged with assault in the second degree and criminal possession of a weapon, police said. Mr. Pheiffer was charged with assault in the second degree.
