HUNTINGTON STATION — Exposure to the elements was ruled out as the cause of death of a man found in a makeshift tent where several homeless people appeared to be living despite the bitter cold, preliminary toxicology tests revealed yesterday, police said.
The man, identified as Orlan Enrique Moreno-Zavala, was found dead early Sunday in a wooded area east of Huntington Manor Park. The low temperature overnight was 18 degrees, but a Suffolk County police statement issued yesterday afternoon said that following an autopsy, “it does not appear that hypothermia was a contributing factor to his death.”
The statement said preliminary results of toxicology tests indicated that Moreno-Zavala, 22, had a high blood-alcohol level.
Friends said Moreno-Zavala had come to the United States several years ago and worked odd jobs including grooming horses.
