In a move to create more transparency at an agency known in the past for conducting its business behind closed doors, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority yesterday began broadcasting its committee and board meetings live on the Internet.
The Webcasts, which are expected to cost the agency about $51,269 a year to maintain and $45,834 in set up costs, were mandated by Governor Spitzer, who is requiring all state-run agencies to broadcast their meetings by July 1.
The MTA holds about 10 committee meetings and one board meeting a month. The Webcasts are expected to be archived online for 30 days, and then made available on DVD.
