A padlocked subway exit at one of the city’s busiest stations, across the street from Bloomingdale’s, will open Sunday following the resolution of a two-year dispute between the Metropolitan Transportation Authority and Vornado Realty Trust that has kept the exit closed.
An exit constructed by Vornado at the 59th Street station was closed by transit officials because they said ice falling from the eaves of the 54-story building above posed a safety threat. Vornado refused to provide an ice canopy.
The new settlement requires Vornado to keep the exit open unless there could be falling snow or ice.
