A man shot himself in the neck yesterday on a boardwalk in Brooklyn, police officials said.

The man, who was not identified by police, turned a gun on himself at about 4:15 p.m. on the boardwalk in front of East 26th Street in the Coney Island section of Brooklyn, police said.

The incident took place as thousands of people flocked to Brooklyn beaches for the July 4 holiday. Police were called to the scene and rushed the man, who was in critical condition, to Coney Island Hospital, police said.
