Man With Gun Shot During Traffic Stop

Police officers conducting a car stop in Soundview, the Bronx, shot and wounded a man when they saw he was carrying a handgun, police said. The 21-year-old suspect was shot in both legs and was taken to Jacobi Hospital, where he was in stable condition, police said. A second suspect, a 28-year-old man, was apprehended at the scene and a 9 mm handgun was recovered, police said.


Two police officers pulled over a gray 1990 Lincoln Town car livery cab at 1:05 a.m. in front of 1020 Boynton Ave. The 21-year-old suspect exited the rear of the car and was in possession of a firearm, and one of the officers shot him in the legs, according to police.


Police did not identify the suspects and did not say why they were pulled over. The investigation is ongoing.


BROOKLYN BYSTANDERS SHOT


An 8-year-old girl and another bystander were shot in the legs on a Flatbush, Brooklyn, sidewalk by a gunman who missed his intended target and fled the scene, police said.


The girl and a 27-year-old man were shot at 7:12 p.m. on Monday in front of 1677 President St. and were taken to Kings County Hospital, where they were in stable condition.


Police said an unidentified black man wearing a black shirt and hat drove up in a gold Nissan Maxima with Pennsylvania plates and fired several shots at another man who exited a car in front of 1663 President St. After the suspect shot the wrong people, he fled in his car, police said. There were no arrests and the investigation is ongoing.


SANITATION WORKER ARRESTED


A New York City sanitation worker was arrested and charged with criminal mischief after he threw a metal bucket through the window of a store yesterday, police said. Calvin Chadwick, 39, was involved in a dispute with the owner of a clothing store at 4765 Broadway over the dumping of commercial trash in city trash cans.


ANTI-GAY BIAS ATTACK


Two teenagers were beaten and mugged on an A train in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn, by three other teenagers who made anti-gay remarks during the assault, police said.


Police arrested Babarito Lopez, 17, of 18 Hunterfly Place, Brooklyn, as well as two suspects aged 15 and 14. They were charged with robbery and misdemeanor assault.


The victims, ages 18 and 17, told police they were riding the southbound train at 1:52 a.m. on Monday when they were approached by the suspects, who made the remarks, hit them in the face and body, and stole their property, according to police. The suspects reported the crime at the Nostrand Avenue subway station. The suspects fled on foot, but were arrested at Fulton Street and Throop Avenue following a police canvas. The 17-year-old victim was treated for minor injuries at Woodhull Hospital.


ASSAULT ARREST IN BROOKLYN


Police arrested a teenager accused of shooting a man in the head and leaving him for dead in Crown Heights, Brooklyn. Wesley Williams, 18, of 187 Hoyt Ave., Brooklyn, was charged with first-degree assault and criminal possession of a weapon, police said.


Mr. Williams is accused of shooting an unidentified man in his 40s on Friday at about 11 p.m. The victim was discovered with a gunshot wound in the head in front of 626 Grand Ave. and was taken to Kings County Hospital. The victim was listed in critical condition yesterday, police said.
