Mayor Bloomberg’s mother, Charlotte Bloomberg, turns 99 today. She has attended both of her son’s mayoral inaugurations and traveled to Israel last year when the mayor announced he was funding an ambulance center in Jerusalem to be named after his late father.
Mr. Bloomberg dedicated a medical facility in Jerusalem in 2003 to his mother, who lives in Medford, Mass., where Mr. Bloomberg grew up. During a commencement address at Tufts University in May 2007, Mr. Bloomberg received an honorary doctorate and joked that his mother always wanted him to become a doctor. “You’d love my mother,” he said, according to a text of the speech. “She keeps herself very busy. She still lives in the house I grew up in Medford. And she dislikes the Yankees almost as much as most of you.”
In September, Mrs. Bloomberg told the Boston Globe she didn’t think her son was interested in running for president.
