Plainclothes officers shot and killed a robbery suspect in East New York yesterday and arrested three others, police said.
The four were robbing a car wash on 1092 Loring Ave., police said. Three of the suspects stayed outside to act as lookouts and the fourth went inside, where he drew a gun and demanded money.
Meanwhile, an unmarked police car with two plainclothes officers arrived on the scene, and the three suspects were seen standing outside the car wash.
While questioning the three, officers heard three gunshots from inside. The fourth suspect then ran outside and fired twice at the officers.
The officers returned fire, shooting between 20 and 26 times, police said, and the suspect was hit and killed. The other three fled the scene, and were later apprehended by detectives.
The three suspects all have prior arrests, police said. They were identified as Joseph Gentry, 20, Gilford Brown, 16, and Jason Steel, 17. All are residents of the Pink Houses, a housing development in Brooklyn. They have all been charged with attempted robbery.
Police identified the suspect who was killed as Rashawn Sharif Moody, 18, of 1165 Stanley Ave. Moody had a prior arrest for robbery.
