Police arrested a drunken driver who critically injured an elderly man on Monday evening in Chelsea, police officials said.

Yoon Edward, 31, struck the unidentified 66-year-old victim as he was crossing West 21st Street between Seventh and Eighth avenues at about 7 p.m., police said. The victim had stepped out onto the street from between two parked cars moments before he was struck, police said.

Mr. Edward, who did not flee the scene, was charged with driving while intoxicated, reckless endangerment, and vehicular assault, police said.

The victim was rushed to St. Vincent’s Hospital, where he remained in critical condition, police said.
