Police: Explosives Lobbed at Mexican Consulate

Investigators are searching for a suspect who threw two explosive devices over the fence of the Mexican Consulate in midtown Manhattan early today, Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly said.
At about 3:30 a.m., someone tossed two replica grenades filled with explosive powder onto a walkway between a fence and front entrance of the consulate, located on 39th Street between Madison and Park avenues, Mr. Kelly said. The devices detonated, causing three windows to shatter, he said.
A witness described to police a possible suspect, a man in his 20s wearing a gray jacket, who rode a bike away from the scene around the time of the blast.
Mr. Kelly described the attack as “remarkably similar” to an incident in May 2005 when explosive devices blew out a window at the British Consulate in Manhattan. Nobody was injured and no arrests were made in that case.
The Mexican consulate said it had received no threats, police said.
