TARRYTOWN, N.Y. – Time served and well behaved, but maybe too old to change.

Edward Magenheimer, 70, was out of Westchester County jail less than 24 hours when he was arrested yesterday for stealing a luxury car that had been parked by its owner and left running, police said.

Magenheimer was spotted about 6:20 a.m. driving the white car from Elmsford to Tarrytown, two suburban communities more than 20 miles north of Manhattan, and taken into custody, A Tarrytown police sergeant, John Barbelet, said.

On Monday, the septuagenarian, who recently underwent heart bypass surgery, was released from jail after his one-year sentence for conning three women out of thousands of dollars was reduced for time served and good behavior, authorities said. He pleaded guilty to the scam in July.

Magenheimer was charged with third-degree criminal possession of stolen property, a felony, in the theft of the luxury car, Tarrytown police said.

The Westchester County District Attorney’s Office said Magenheimer was being represented by Legal Aid. A phone message left for the group was not immediately returned early today.
