The sponsor of a City Council bill that would require manufacturers to collect and recycle the televisions, computers, and other electronic equipment they produce is seeking the backing of Mayor Bloomberg. A City Council Member of Brooklyn, Bill de Blasio, held a rally for the bill yesterday at City Hall and said he is trying to build broader support for his proposal, which is backed by 39 council members. Currently, taxpayers foot the bill to dispose of nearly 25,000 tons of electronic waste, according to Mr. de Blasio’s office.
