Recent Construction Accidents on Bovis Lend Lease Sites

Bovis Lend Lease is one of the city’s largest construction managers. Below is a list of recent construction accidents on Bovis sites prior to Saturday’s fire:

SEPTEMBER 2002

Wood falls during the of the AOL Time Warner building at 10 Columbus Circle, injuring two people, including one who is left in critical condition.

DECEMBER 2002

A steelworker slips and falls to his death at the Bloomberg LP headquarters at 731 Lexington Ave.

APRIL 2003

A fire breaks out at the AOL Time Warner Building, damaging the home of Jazz at Lincoln Center.

DECEMBER 2003

A sheet of plywood blows off the 50th floor of the Bloomberg LP headquarters, injuring bystanders.

NOVEMBER 2004

Plywood boards being lifted 30 stories are dropped from a crane, scattering over a distance of 100 feet at the corner of 39th Street and Sixth Avenue, injuring bystanders.

MARCH 2006

A construction worker survives a 40-foot fall at the former Deutsche Bank headquarters.

MAY 2006

The company pays $1.2 million in damages to a construction worker who fell off scaffolding while helping to repair damage at Yankee Stadium.

APRIL 2007

Along with the MTA, Bovis is found responsible for lead poisoning and brain damage suffered by three men working on the Grand Central Terminal renovation project without respiratory protection. The men are awarded $13 million.

MAY 2007

A 22-foot metal pipe falls from the 35th floor of the Deutsche Bank headquarters and crashes through the roof of a firehouse across the street, barely missing two firefighters.

AUGUST 2007

Two city firefighters are killed in a fire at the former Deutsche Bank headquarters.
