Schumer: Heating Prices To Rise 25% This Winter

New Yorkers can expect their heating bills to increase by an average of $720 this winter, courtesy of skyrocketing oil prices, according to a report released today by Senator Schumer.
Heating oil prices are projected to be 25% higher than last winter, which translates into an additional cost of about $1.24 billion for the New York City area, Mr. Schumer’s office stated in a press release. In response, Mr. Schumer will push for an expansion of the federal Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program, which provides aid to help families cover their heating bills.
Mr. Schumer’s office did not respond to requests for additional comment.
