RIVERHEAD — The mother of a 5-month-old boy who prosecutors said died of shaken baby syndrome pleaded guilty yesterday to second-degree manslaughter in a plea deal that will require her to testify against her boyfriend, prosecutors said.

Cynthia Morales, 25, who was facing trial on a charge of second-degree murder, agreed to testify against Julio Rivera, 26, in the March 31, 2006, death of their son, Eric Rivera.

Prosecutors say little Eric suffered severe brain injuries and also had drugs in his system at levels ordinarily found in an adult.
