A so-called “Ninja Burglar” who is terrorizing Staten Island homeowners has prompted a pair of state senators to write a bill that would reclassify some burglaries as violent crimes.

State Senators Eric Adams and Diane Savino, both Democrats, said they would introduce a bill in the 2008 legislative session that would eliminate parole as a possible punishment for burglars who enter a home while someone is there. Instead, a burglary would be classified as a “class B” felony if a resident were home at the time, meaning a conviction would carry mandatory prison time, the senators said.

The Ninja Burglar, who earned the nickname because of his black outfit and mask, struck for the 16th time over the weekend.
