Six Dead in a Bloody Weekend of Unrelated Shootings

At least 10 unrelated shootings in the past three days in the city left six people dead and others injured.
In the first shooting of the weekend, on Friday at 1:38 a.m., a man was shot while ordering at a McDonald’s restaurant on Nostrand Avenue in the Sheepshead Bay section of Brooklyn, police said. The victim, 21, was placing an order at the counter when he and a male who entered the restaurant got into an argument. The fight became physical and the suspect took out a handgun and shot the victim, striking him in the middle finger and chest. The victim was taken to Lutheran Hospital in critical condition.
At 2 a.m. Saturday, a 13-year-old boy and a 10-year-old girl were shot outside a building on Newport Street in Brownsville, Brooklyn, while the boy was having his hair braided, police said. Two black males were walking through a parking lot when one allegedly pulled out a pistol and shot the children. The boy was hit in the back and the girl in the upper arm, forearm, and breast. They were taken to Brookdale Hospital in stable condition.
At 2:40 a.m., a man was shot while sitting in the back of a livery cab. The man, 29, and another man, 34, entered the cab at the corner of Kelly Street and Westchester Avenue in Hunts Point, the Bronx. The victims had been in an earlier dispute with two males and the suspects returned, one of them bearing a handgun, police said. That suspect fired one shot into the rear passenger window of the cab, police said, striking the younger victim in the left leg. The suspect then attacked the other victim, hitting him in the face with the firearm. Both victims were taken to Lincoln Hospital in stable condition.
On Saturday at 8:34 p.m., a 39-year-old man, Michael Colon, got into an argument with a male in front of a building on East 145th Street in the South Bronx. After gunfire erupted, police on patrol found Colon lying face-up on the sidewalk with a wound to the chest. He died at 10:20 p.m. at Lincoln Hospital.
At 10:04 that night, a 19-year-old, Oscar Javier, was standing on the corner of West Tremont Avenue and University Avenue in University Heights, the Bronx, when he became the victim of a drive-by shooting, police said. He was hit in the torso and was pronounced dead at Bronx-Lebanon Hospital a half-hour later.
Around the same time, a 29-year-old man, Hastings Fersner, was in front of a housing development on Classon Avenue in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn, when he was shot twice. He was taken to Brooklyn Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 12:20 a.m. yesterday.
At 1:07 a.m. yesterday, a man identified as Ulysses Watkins was allegedly firing a gun in front of a building on Marcy Avenue in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn, when police confronted him. After he refused repeatedly to drop his weapon, police shot him in the leg, officials said. He was listed in stable condition at Kings County Hospital.
At 4:20 a.m. yesterday, an East Flatbush resident, Darren George, 23, was shot in the face as he entered his home, police said. He died at the scene.
About two hours later, Jeremy Rodriguez, 19, was fatally shot in the head outside his building on Marcus Garvey Boulevard in Bedford-Stuyvesant.
Shortly after 10 p.m. last night, four men, from 19 to 21 years old, were shot in Montibeller Park in Queens, where a street festival was underway, police said. The shootings were allegedly over a dispute that had occurred earlier in the day. One 21-year-old victim died of a gunshot wound to the chest; another 21-year-old suffered wounds to the arm and stomach and is in critical condition at Mary Immaculate Hospital. A 19-year-old victim was shot in the left leg and is in stable condition at Jamaica Hospital, and another 21-year-old, who was on parole for grand larceny auto, walked into Jamaica Hospital 45 minutes after the incident occurred with a gunshot wound to the body. Police recovered between 10 and 12 shell casings from two different guns.
