The mother of a 14-month-old boy returned her toddler to the Administration of Child Services yesterday, five days after the mother and father allegedly took the baby from its legal guardian in Coney Island, prompting a police investigation.

Alexandria Spindell, the mother of Andre, returned the baby to ACS at 9 p.m. on Tuesday, police said. Andre has been placed in the care of a foster family and will be medically evaluated, police said.

Police said the kidnapping occurred at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, when the 54-year-old grandmother and legal guardian of the baby answered the door of her West 8th Street apartment and found the father, Raphael Spindell, on the doorstep. According to police, Mr. Spindell then took his son from the home without permission, and was accompanied by Mrs. Spindell at the time.

Mr. Spindell was reportedly displeased that his son was not being fed a strict vegan diet. Police were seeking the Spindells, who are wanted for custodial interference, and have asked anyone with information to call Crimestoppers at 800-577-TIPS or the 60th precinct at 718-946-3326.
