Mamadou Soumare received government permission yesterday to return to America after the African burial of his wife and four children, who were among the 10 victims of a Bronx house fire.

The permit brought relief to a man who faced the possibility he might not be able to accompany his family’s remains, for fear of not being able to return to New York.

The bodies of the five were being held in a funeral home while federal officials processed papers so Mr. Soumare can fly with them to Mali.
