A substitute teacher was arrested in Queens yesterday for allegedly hitting two children with a book, police said.
The substitute, Syed Abdullah, 40, worked at J.H.S. 217, the Robert Van Wyck School, on 144th Street. At around 2 p.m. yesterday, police said they responded to a call from the school about the alleged assault.
Two students, a 13-year-old boy and a 12-year-old girl, stated they had been hit by Mr. Abdullah, police officials said.
Mr. Abdullah faces charges of assault and endangering the welfare of a child.
A spokeswoman for the department of education said Mr. Abdullah would not receive any further assignments in the city schools.
