A subway train carrying transit workers derailed this morning at the Chambers Street stop in downtown Manhattan, fire department officials said.
The train, which was running on the M line, hit the bumper block at the end of the track causing the train to derail at about 10:55 a.m., a spokeswoman for the Metropolitan Transit Authority, Marisa Baldeo, said. There were no passengers on the train, she said.
The operator of the train was stuck inside after the accident, and required medical attention, Ms. Baldeo said. His injuries were unknown, she said.
A subway car derailed in June 2006 after hitting a bumper block in a subway yard in Brooklyn, injuring two people. The operator of the train had suffered a seizure before the accident.
