A Queens schoolteacher has been arrested on charges of arranging to meet for sex with an undercover detective who was posing on the Internet as a 14-year-old girl, the Queens district attorney’s office announced yesterday.

Daniel Gettens, 53, a science teacher at the Sacred Heart of Jesus School in Bayside, was arraigned yesterday on charges of disseminating indecent materials and child endangerment.

Mr. Gettens is accused of using the Yahoo Instant Message Service with the screen name “Dannyget2030” to engage in sexually explicit chat with the detective. He arranged a meeting at a Forest Hills fast food restaurant and suggested they have sex in an empty classroom at Mr. Gettens’s school.

Authorities said Mr. Gettens sent sexually explicit photographs of himself via e-mail and web camera. NYPD detectives recovered a web and video camera, a 12-pack of beer, and pillows from Mr. Gettens’s car.

NYPD officers arrested a Kazakstani gunrunner early yesterday morning after a yearlong joint operation with federal law enforcement codenamed “Red Dawn.”

Undercover agents posing as organized crime figures purchased 37 guns, including 31 handguns, two shotguns, two rifles, and two machine pistols, from Serguei Volchenko, 48, over the past year.

Officers arrested him at home. Detectives found five weapons on the suspect, one loaded gun, and 1,300 rounds of ammunition in his Queens apartment, police said.

He has been charged with vehicular manslaughter, manslaughter, reckless endangerment, reckless driving, and driving while under the influence of alcohol.
