A teacher’s aide who has worked in the city schools since August 2005 is being charged with rape after the Office of the Special Commissioner of Investigation, Richard Condon, arrested him yesterday.
Mr. Condon’s office said the aide, Timothy Avery, 25, had sex with a 15-year-old female student multiple times at his home. The office said the student attends Hunter College High School in Manhattan, where it said Mr. Avery worked at the time.
A Department of Education spokeswoman said Mr. Avery began his career as an occasional employee working short-term assignments and settled at a special education program in May 2006.
Mr. Avery will now be suspended without pay pending the results of the investigation.
