Two dogs trained to sniff DVDs helped in the seizure of thousands of counterfeit movies from several retail stores in Queens, the Queens District Attorney’s Office announced yesterday.
“For the first time in the United States, specially trained DVD-sniffing dogs have actively participated in a criminal investigation aimed at combating DVD piracy,” Queens District Attorney Richard Brown said in a statement.
The DVD-sniffing dogs — two black Labradors named Lucky and Flo — assisted investigators in locating about 5,200 DVD’s on Tuesday during raids at three separate stores in the Jamaica section of Queens, the office said. Many hidden disks may not have been confiscated if not for the dogs, a spokesman for the office said.
