An argument over money in a diamond business in Midtown led to two men being stabbed yesterday, police officials said.
The incident occurred after a man, whom police said is a diamond importer from India, confronted another businessman in his sixth-floor suite at 56 W. 45th St. over a debt claim.
The importer, identified by police as Pritam Sharma, 38, reportedly walked into the office in the diamond district, situated between Rockefeller Center and Bryant Park, and began arguing with one of the people working there. As they argued, Mr. Sharma allegedly pulled a knife out of a bag he was carrying and attacked the other man, whom police did not identify.
He stabbed the man, who is 36, once in the chest before another man who was working in the office intervened.
Mr. Sharma then proceeded to stab the second man, who is 41, in the right hand, police said. Mr. Sharma was also injured during the altercation, with cuts to his face from broken glass. Police said they were not sure how he had received his injuries.
All three were removed to Bellevue Hospital with injuries that police said were not life threatening. Police said Mr. Sharma had been arrested and that charges against him are pending.
