Two suspects caught trying to carry a dead man into a check-cashing store in an attempt to cash his social security check were charged yesterday with attempted forgery, attempted possession of a forged instrument, and petit larceny, police said.
David Daloia and James O’Hare, both 65, were spotted by a police detective attempting to carry a desk chair bearing the corpse of Mr. O’Hare’s roommate, Virgilio Cintron, into the Pay-O-Matic store on Ninth Avenue in Manhattan, police said.
A sixteen-year veteran of the force, Detective Travis Rapp, noticed the incident at about 3:30 p.m. from inside the restaurant, Empanada Mama, he said. He confronted the two suspects and called 911.
“I’ve seen a few dead people in my life but never like this,” Mr. Rapp said.
