In December 1999, Rep. Anthony Weiner received a campaign contribution of $1,000 from the man whose job he now wants to take: Michael Bloomberg.

Mr. Weiner, who is seeking the Democratic mayoral nomination in next month’s primary, “would be delighted to accept any additional donations” from Mr. Bloomberg, a Weiner spokesman, Anson Kaye, said.

At the time of the Weiner contribution, Mr. Bloomberg was still an enrolled Democrat. A Bloomberg spokesman, William Cunningham, said the billionaire donated to candidates of all political stripes after receiving requests from colleagues, although he added: “If somebody said he was raising money for Fidel Castro, Mike would say, ‘I don’t think so.'”
