A Holocaust survivor and Nobel laureate, Elie Wiesel, will deliver the first President’s Lecture at City College on April 9, the school announced yesterday.

The school also plans to bestow an honorary degree on Mr. Wiesel, who was a professor of Judaic studies there from 1972 and 1976, officials said. Currently, Mr. Wiesel is a professor of religion and philosophy at Boston University. The author of more than 40 books, he has been recognized with several awards, including the Presidential Medal of Freedom, for his humanitarian efforts.

The lecture, “Confronting Fanaticism: Building a Moral Unity in a Diverse Society,” will be the first in a series that is endowed by City College’s president, Gregory Williams.
