Manhattan Federal Judge Robert Sweet’s ruling, which prohibits the searching of protesters’ bags during the upcoming Republican National Convention, is illogical and idiotic [“City Will Appeal Curbs on Police During Protests,” Aaron Smith, Page 1, July 21, 2004].

While the judge maintains that he is encouraging “free expression in a secure society,” all he’s really doing is rolling out the red carpet for terrorists and insurgents whose mission is at best to disrupt due process, and at worst to harm or kill innocent people.

With legalistic lunacy like this prevailing, it is no wonder experienced police officers are leaving the department in record numbers.

The public should be outraged not only by Judge Sweet giving the green light to terrorists, but also by apathetic bureaucracies that do nothing to keep experienced police officers on the streets.
