As petroleum prices inch forward, so does Senator Kerry’s advantage in the poll numbers nationally as well as in key battleground states such as Michigan. Not only are consumers upset at the prospect of gasoline prices of more than $2 a gallon, but they may see high oil prices as evidence that President Bush’s effort to rewrite Middle East history is failing. And President Bush hasn’t been doing much to persuade voters that he has a grip on the situation.
