‘New York Drops Off the List of “Big Five” Orchestras’
Music is in the ear of the beholder and to this former Juilliard student and New York Philharmonic subscriber of 44 seasons, the orchestra sounds splendid under its current musical director, Lorin Maazel [Front Page, “New York Drops Off the List of ‘Big Five’ Orchestras,” December 5, 2006].

‘The Mendacity of the Liberal Press’
I was shocked to read the implication of Matt Drudge as some sort of enemy as described in “The Mendacity Of the Liberal Press” [New York,”The Mendacity of the Liberal Press,” December 15, 2006]. I believe that Mr. Drudge understands that the “mendacity” of the “enemedia” must be publicized loudly and clearly, and no one does this as well as he. Through the Drudge Report, we learn who is cheering for our enemies in the Middle East, who the priests of the Church of Global Warming are, who really is attacking our civil liberties, etc.

Let us not get too bent out of shape over sensational headlines but judge the stories by their full content [New York, “The Mendacity of the Liberal Press,” December 15, 2006]. If the headline had been, “Gates Declares We Are Winning and Losing,” well, I think you see the point. Perfectly accurate headlines regarding stories about politicians and administration officials would simply compound the boredom. “Inconvenient Truth: Al Gore Misinterprets Scientific Data,” how novel or unexpected is that?
