‘Gall of the Hashemites’
Thank you for the clear and forceful editorial on the Hashemite king of Jordan, Abdullah II [Editorial, “Gall of the Hashemites,” March 8, 2007].
Your presentation of the lies and historical revisionism of Abdullah’s speech before Congress merely exposes what is part of the ongoing program in the entire Arab Muslim world today.
Facts and historical truths are ignored, while convenient lies are fabricated and sold to the world, as well as being implanted in the minds of impressionable young Muslims.
It’s time to recognize that Jordan is no friend of Israel or America, just as Egypt, which continues to supply weapons to Hamas in its war against Israel, and Saudi Arabia, with its Arab Peace Initiative, are no friends.
We’ve exercised poor judgment in the past when choosing our allies in the Middle East. Let’s learn from history, rather than be guilty of repeating it, to our great detriment and sorrow.

‘Hollywood Heroes As Liars’
In his column in the March 9-11 New York Sun, R. Emmett Tyrrell Jr. uses the I. Lewis Libby conviction as an occasion to bash Hillary Clinton, Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, and Joseph C. Wilson IV [Oped, “Hollywood Heroes As Liars,” Weekend Edition, March 9-11, 2007].
May I suggest to Mr. Tyrrell that when a high White House official is guilty of lying to investigators trying to discover the truth of possible misconduct, it is not a “farce” as he says. It is a serious threat to our democracy.
