‘Two Cocktails Are Named Best Among City’s Sidewalk Cafes’
Was I seeing right when I read that the New York City Department of Consumer Affairs had vetted a summer cocktail? [New York, “Two Cocktails Are Named Best Among City’s Sidewalk Cafes,” May 24, 2007] I’ve always thought that the mission of this department was to protect consumers, not promote the use, and potential abuse, of alcohol.

‘Losing Battle for Sderot’
Hillel Halkin had previously supported the removal of all Jews from Gaza by Sharon and Olmert and turning that territory over to the Palestinian Arabs [Oped, “Losing Battle for Sderot,” May 22 2007].
In his column on May 22, Mr. Halkin laments the completely predictable result — the continuous rocket attacks on the city of Sderot that has terrorized and demoralized its inhabitants with the likely expansion of attacks to other Israeli cities and towns with larger, longer range rockets like the ones fired on northern Israeli cities during the recent Lebanese war.
