‘Silver’s Skepticism’
I think that congestion pricing will be a disaster for the residents of New York City. Small businesses will be hurt. Prices will skyrocket as tolls are passed along to consumers. The boroughs will become a parking lot. Senior citizens seeking help at New York City hospitals will be penalized. Residents who travel against rush hour traffic will still not be served [Oped, “Silver’s Skepticism,” June 11, 2007].
There are more effective, less painful, and discriminatory ways to reduce congestion in New York City, but our elitist mayor can only come up with this tax on the middle class.
