‘Withdrawal Recalled’
In an article in Monday’s New York Sun I am quoted as saying: “America is harmless as an enemy and treacherous as a friend” [Oped, “Withdrawal Recalled,” August 27, 2007].
The quotation is accurate, but misleadingly incomplete. What I have said on various occasions is that if our leaders and would-be leaders speak and act in a certain way this is the impression that they will convey. In other words, this is a warning, not a judgment.
