Fashion shows might not make the best first dates – who’d want to compete for attention with runway models? But they were great dates this week for established couples such as Darren Aronofsky and Rachel Weisz, Debra Messing and Daniel Zelman, and Hilary Duff and Joel Madden. Not only could the men tell their ladies which outfits they liked the most, but the women could confide the same … which might come in handy on Valentine’s Day.

For some time now, the best parties during Fashion Week – and most weeks – have been downtown. But Midtown is starting to have some crazy late night sparkle.

The Versace cocktail party Tuesday night, held at the newly redesigned store on Fifth Avenue and 51st Street, turned out the highest celebrity wattage of the week: Kate Hudson, Jennifer Lopez, Claire Danes, Rupert Everett, Alan Cumming, Ms. Weisz, and on and on.

That party, like several other store-opening nights in the last few years (Louis Vuitton, Burberry, Asprey), wound down by a prim and proper 9 p.m. So uptown.

The action was just getting started. The night took off – literally, into the sky – with a dinner on a top floor of One Beacon Court, Cesar Pelli’s new tower on Lexington Avenue.

In attendance were Harry and Jill Connick, Benicio Del Toro, Milla Jovovich, Dayssi Olarte de Kanavos, Amy Sacco, Nicollette Sheridan, Ingrid Sischy, and Harvey Weinstein. Angela McCluskey performed.

The views were so spectacular, the company so chic, no one wanted to leave, no matter how nice their own digs.

The night lures are multiplying in Midtown: There’s Lever House, the Core Club, BG at Bergdorf Goodman, and, soon to open at Beacon Court, the grand Le Cirque.

And so the neighborhood once known for breakfasts at Tiffany’s may have some moonlight machismo after all.
