The impresario of the Martha Stewart weddings enterprise, Darcy Miller Nussbaum, was shocked and confused when told she didn’t have to pick flowers or decor for a luncheon honoring her. So as the event approached, a benefit for the Jewish Women’s Foundation of New York, Ms. Miller Nussbaum made her own work, designing name tags and favors for each of her guests, including Kate Spade, Anne Keating, Dylan Lauren, and Lela Rose — some Jewish, and some not.

The name tags featured an illustration of a girl, drawn by Ms. Miller Nussbaum, with the names of her guests in silver. The favors were paper cones, also decorated with her illustrations (birds and stars and the word “thank you”), and filled with pink candies. And of course, in the gift bags for the event, every guest received a copy of the magazine Martha Stewart Weddings.

The other honorees, designer shoe executive Jane Weitzman, art philanthropist Melva Bucksbaum, and Columbia University film professor Annette Insdorf, also brought flare to the event, through their sheer presence and many accomplishments. They were appropriate symbols of the successful lives that the foundation hopes to facilitate for Jewish girls and women in the New York area.

The foundation has funded a program in Westchester reaching out to victims of domestic violence.

A new grant will focus on the issues of adolescent girls, such as weight and bullying. The organization, which marks its 10th anniversary this year, has distributed more than $1.5 million in grants.
