1. Hotel Riverview Owners Fined: The new owners of the Hotel Riverview have been fined $2,000 for beginning renovations to the building without proper permits, the New York Observer reported. Hoteliers Sean MacPherson and Eric Goode are planning to convert the single resident occupancy building into the high-end Jane St. Hotel. They paid $27 million for the building, according to city records.
2. Bloomberg Pushes Property Tax Rebate: Mayor Bloomberg is pushing to extend a $400-a-year property tax rebate and a 7% property tax deduction. The mayor said during his State of the City address that homeowners “need continued tax relief.” The mayor, who needs the support of the City Council to go along with his plan, also said that “a variety of factors,” including the health of the economy and stability of state subsidies, would play into whether he is able to preserve the cuts.
3. Goldman Chief Invests on the Upper West Side: The chief executive of Goldman Sachs, Lloyd Blankfein, bought two apartments at 15 Central Park West for $26 million, the Real Deal reported. He took apartments 16A and 17A, according to city records.
4. Average Wall Street Bonus Falls: The average bonus for Wall Street employees fell by 4.7% compared with 2006, the state comptroller’s office reported. The bonus numbers for 2006 were record highs, Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli said. Total bonuses fell to $33.2 billion from $33.9 billion.
5. Church Sells for $31 Million: A church near Penn Station has sold for $31 million, the Real Deal reported. The Glad Tidings Tabernacle Church, situated at 325–327 33rd St., is across the street from the Farley Post Office. The buyer of the Tabernacle Church, PLC Partners, has already begun demolishing the church.
