Last week’s Jets victory against the Chargers – their first postseason road win in 22 years – gave diehard Jets fans like Chris Lehman the opportunity to reach another milestone: the sweet 16.

Saturday will be the 16th game Lehman has attended this season, but he’s hoping for the elite 18, which would put him and the Jets in the Super Bowl. First, however, the Jets must beat the Steelers, which is why Lehman flies today with at least 40 other fans from Newark to Pittsburgh for Saturday’s AFC playoff game.

Lehman and others paid $769 for airfare, hotel rooms, and game tickets through a Web site called Jetsvacation.com to see the Jets – who are nine-point underdogs – play the Steelers. While some may see it as a sucker’s bet, last week’s overtime win was a sign that odds were meant to be beat.

“Just living the ultimate Jet fan’s dream, this year anyway,” Lehman wrote onJetsinsider.com, a fan Web site that received a record six million page hits through the first 12 days of January. “I could just hear one of those Master Card commercials after the game. Train to Newark airport: $12.65. Hotel, airfare, and game ticket against the Chargers: $850.”

One step closer to the Super Bowl?

“Priceless,” Lehman, who goes by the moniker “JoiseyJet,” wrote.

Brian Gallagher, a Queens-born Jets fan who now works in Manhattan as mortgage broker, will make his first trip to Pittsburgh this weekend.

“I guess this is the only reason to go,” he said of the Steel City.

Gallagher and several friends are making a road trip, and bought tickets on eBay Monday for $300 apiece. The price had come down to $250 by yesterday evening, but that still dwarfs the face value of $90 for the best seats in the house. Mr. Gallagher plans to wear his Jets colors – a former defensive end Mark Gastineau jersey, circa 1984 – plain and proud.

Another fan who will make the drive, Susan Bracci, a mortgage banker from Bay Ridge Brooklyn, wouldn’t reveal how much she paid for her tickets. Unlike Gallagher he may play it safe as far as sporting her Grang Green parefenalia.

“On a personal level, me, I’m a little more hesitant to flaunt my Jets jersey in this unchartered territory,” Ms. Bracci said. “I will wear it – but under three layers of clothing because it will be 15 degrees out there. It’s like Hells Angels vs. the Pagans you can’t wear your pagan colors and go into Hells Angels territory.”

Unless, of course, you win.

“Hopefully, we’re not driving back in mourning,” Mr. Gallagher said. “That’ll be a long seven hours.”
