The Knicks signed Qyntel Woods yesterday, filling a roster spot that opened after the team waived Matt Barnes.
Woods, a 6-foot-8 forward/guard, played for Miami and Portland over the last three seasons and averaged 3.1 points and 1.7 rebounds. He was the 21st overall pick by the Trail Blazers in the 2002 NBA draft.
The 6-foot-8-inch Woods was on Portland’s suspended list last season for allegations of animal abuse before being waived in January. He was released by the team the same day he pleaded guilty in an Oregon court for abusing his pit bull.
Last October, Woods was suspended five games for violating the league’s substance-abuse policy.
The Miami Heat signed Woods on January 26, but he played in just three games last season. The Boston Celtics acquired the him in the five-team, 13-player trade that sent Antoine Walker to Miami in the off-season, but the team waived him prior to training camp.
The 6-foot-7-inch, 225-pound Barnes averaged 4.3 points and 4.0 rebounds in six games this season.
