SOURCE: PADRES’ BRADLEY TEARS ACL DURING ALTERCATION

Padres left fielder Milton Bradley tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee when he was spun to the ground by his manager Sunday during a blowup with an umpire and will miss the rest of the season.

The diagnosis came from an MRI exam, according to a person with knowledge of the situation, who spoke Monday on condition of anonymity because a formal announcement had yet to be made.

Bradley, who helped spark the wild-card leading Padres during the season’s second half, was ejected by Mike Winters. He then hurt his knee during a bizarre scene when manager Bud Black spun him to the ground to keep him from going after the first base umpire in the eighth inning of Sunday’s 7-3 loss to Colorado.

RAMS RUNNING BACK JACKSON OUT WITH PARTIAL GROIN TEAR

St. Louis Rams running back Steven Jackson will miss at least one week with a partial tear of his left groin, an injury sustained in the fourth quarter of Sunday’s 24-3 loss at Tampa Bay.

Rookie Brian Leonard, a second-round pick from Rutgers, will get his first start Sunday at Dallas. Offensive coordinator Greg Olson was hopeful Jackson would be out only one game.

“He’s one of our best players, if not the best player,” offensive coordinator Greg Olson said.

DELHOMME WILL NOT NEED SURGERY ON STRAINED ELBOW

Carolina Panthers quarterback Jake Delhomme loves to move his arms when he talks. Yesterday was no exception, sore elbow and all.

With both arms flailing and nothing protecting his strained right elbow, Delhomme was happy after an MRI determined he won’t need surgery. But Delhomme was unsure if he or backup David Carr will start on Sunday against Tampa Bay.

COUNTY PROSECUTOR WILL SEEK INDICTMENTS IN VICK CASE

The prosecutor in the rural county where Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick has admitted to bankrolling a dogfighting operation plans to present “a host of bills of indictment” regarding the case to a grand jury on today.

“Yes, I’m presenting matters to the grand jury that involve dogfighting at 1915 Moonlight Road,” Surry County Commonwealth’s Attorney Gerald G. Poindexter told the Associated Press in a telephone interview last night.

Moonlight Road is the address of the two-story home on 15 acres that has been host to the operation known as “Bad Newz Kennels” since 2001, and where dogs have been trained, executed and fought.

SEAHAWKS RB ALEXANDER HAS CRACKED BONE IN LEFT WRIST

Seattle Seahawks running back Shaun Alexander has a broken left wrist, but will continue to play with a protective cast.

Coach Mike Holmgren said yesterday further pictures on what was thought to be a sprain showed a small crack. The coach added that Alexander’s wrist will heal in a few weeks if immobilized whether he plays or not. So Alexander will start on Sunday at San Francisco (2–1).
