No More Wire Hangers

Spring has a funny way of creeping up on New Yorkers, who are sometimes too busy to see it coming. One way to prepare for the season’s sooner-than-you-think arrival is by getting a jump start on spring-cleaning.
Just in time, the Container Store opens its second Manhattan location, at 58th Street and Lexington Avenue, on March 4. The company is promoting the new store with a citywide wire-hanger recycling campaign titled “Go Wireless NYC!” From now until March 1, New Yorkers can bring used wire hangers to the first Container Store location, at Sixth Avenue between 18th and 19th streets. New York artists have used wire hangers to make gardening sculptures that are on display in the store. They will later be donated to the Central Park Conservancy.
The first 100 customers to drop off wire hangers on opening day (Saturday, March 4, 9 a.m.) at the new location will receive a free case of the company’s heavy-gauge plastic hangers.
As for spring-cleaning, it can seem like a daunting task even without all those wire hangers to worry about. The public relations director of the Container Store, Audrey Robertson, advises New Yorkers to divide the work into smaller projects.
Where to begin? Ms. Robertson suggests starting with the closet. “New Yorkers have so much to juggle and don’t necessarily have time in the morning to iron shirts that have divots from wire hangers.” That’s where those higher quality hangers come in. They’re on sale at the Container Store, of course.
