With the presidential campaign over, first lady Laura Bush will be stumping for another campaign. Today she’s expected to join the swells under the tents at Fashion Week for the Red Dress Collection, sponsored by the Heart Truth, a heart-disease awareness campaign.

For this charity event, 25 designers ranging from Baby Phat to Zac Posen have each created a red dress – a new symbol for heart-disease awareness. The dresses will be modeled by celebrities such as the Duchess of York Sarah Ferguson, Venus Williams, and Michelle Kwan.

Alas, Mrs. Bush, a longtime supporter of heart-disease awareness, won’t be modeling. She’s long been active in spreading the word that heart disease is the leading cause of death among women, and that the risk can be reduced by exercising and not smoking. The ex-smoker is herself newly committed to fitness. “I lift weights three times a week,” she told ABC News. “I’m very proud that [the president’s] finally gotten me off the couch, and so I’m exercising like he has for years.”
