SPAIN
Haven’t thought of sunny Spain as a luxury travel destination? Think again. The Crown Collection is inaugurating a custom-designed 10-day escorted tour from September 2 to 11 that covers the heart of Spain: Madrid, Segovia, Toledo, and the wine region of La Rioja. Highlights of the “Through Open Doors” program include access to private gardens and the kitchens of some of Spain’s most renowned chefs and a visit to the Marques de Riscal winery, designed by Frank Gehry. The tour price of $7,950 for each person includes business class fare from New York, eight nights’ accommodation at the Hotel Ritz in Madrid, an overnight in La Rioja, five lunches, four dinners, a hands-on cooking class, three wine seminars, and more. The tour will be led by culinary expert Cinnamon Broceaux.

GRENADA
Halfway through summer and you’re still stressed out? You can recharge your batteries at Laluna, in St. George’s, Grenada, thanks to the island hideaway’s “Well-Being” package. Resident “yogi master” Michael is on site to teach guests Reiki, Chi Gung, and relaxed breathing. The seven-night package for two includes accommodation in a deluxe cottage with private plunge pool, breakfast and dinner daily, a four-hour guided island tour featuring a “spiritual awareness” rain forest hike, six massages on your private veranda (three for each person), three private yoga classes, three private meditation sessions, and a “good karma necklace.” Package prices rise as the temperature falls, but now through September 30, the rate is a reasonable $3,860.

TRAVEL GUIDES
With the proliferation of travel guides and deluge of amateur advice on the Internet, it’s reassuring to know there are still guidebooks that resist the siren calls of forced informality and the kind of glossy design that shows everything (including the fact that you’re a tourist) and illuminates nothing. For the most discriminating and accurate restaurant and hotel reviews plus comprehensive coverage of monuments, museums, and architecture, look for ACCESS Guides. The ACCESS imprint has wisely avoided overextending itself with too many titles, so books such as ACCESS Paris read like true insider’s guides. And Avalon’s Moon Metro guides boast truly fine maps that fold out discreetly and pithy coverage of all the main points of interest in great cities like London – and lesser ones such as Las Vegas.
