Isaac Mizrahi’s bad behavior at the Golden Globe Awards – during which he groped Scarlett Johannson’s breast, looked down Teri Hatcher’s dress, and asked an off-color question of Eva Longorhia – ensured that the red carpet antics stole the awards show. Can viewers of the Academy Awards expect more of the same? It’s a safe bet, but there are more civilized ways to watch, too.

Mr. Mizrahi, the former fashion designer and current talk show host, will again be hosting a pre-award show on the E! cable television channel starting at 7:30 p.m on channel 236. When asked by reporters if he would dial back his antics for academy awards, Mr. Mizrahi said he had no plans to change his personality. That’s all well and good, but that personality might not be welcome for long at the industry’s highest profile show. Academy officials have said they had prescribed no rules for red carpet conduct, but if a commentator was out of line he or she might not be a wel come presence for next year’s event.

Die-hard fans can start the Oscar madness in the early afternoon. At 2 p.m., E!’s “Countdown to the Red Carpet” kicks off six hours of commentary on the nominees and what they’re wearing. With any luck, there’ll be something to talk about, be it glamour, mistakes, or endlessly memorable looks like Bjork’s swan dress or Cher’s Bob Mackie fantasy.

The awards themselves, which begin at 7:30 p.m., will be broadcast by ABC, and viewers can catch Hollywood’s glitterati sashaying up the red carpet starting at 7 p.m. This year’s show will spend some time introducing the lesser known nominated films – such as Noah Baumbach’s “The Squid and the Whale” – in between interviews with stars outside the theater.

The four hosts include 7-year-Oscar veteran Chris Connelly and newcomer Vanessa Minnillo, who co-hosts MTV’s “Total Request Live.” With legendary red carpet show producer Dennis Doty coordinating, the show will be more expansive than previous years, according to the Academy.

Where is Joan Rivers these days? The perennial doyenne of the red carpet is still in the hosting game, but now she’s stopping stars for the TV Guide Channel. Her show, which she co-hosts with her daughter Melissa, starts at 5:30 p.m. and is likely to be just as brash and zany as ever – though not quite on the order of Mr. Mizrahi. WB11 will also air an hour-long Oscar preview, “Live from the Academy Awards,” with KTLA’s Sam Rubin at 7 p.m. on channel 11.
