UNDERDOG
PG, 104 minutes
In yet another adaptation of a popular 20th-century children’s series, Underdog, the superhero canine with a gift for rhyme (“There’s no need to fear. Underdog is here!”), returns in a live-action re-imagination of the classic cartoon.
After an accident in the lab of maniacal scientist Dr. Simon Barsinister (Peter Dinklage), an ordinary beagle unexpectedly finds himself with unimaginable powers and the ability to speak. Armed with a superhero costume, Underdog (voiced by Jason Lee) vows to protect the beleaguered citizens of Capitol City and, in particular, one beautiful spaniel named Polly Purebread (Amy Adams). When an evil plot by Barsinister and his overgrown henchman Cad (Patrick Warburton) threatens to destroy Capitol City, only Underdog can save the day.
IF I DIDN’T CARE
Unrated, 90 minutes
Set in the Hamptons, this mystery thriller by the brother team of Orson and Ben Cummings centers on Davis Meyers (Bill Sage) and his ill-fated attempt to produce an heir, which ultimately leads to infidelity, murder, and other tragic consequences. Soon he’s attracted the attention of an investigator named Linus (Roy Scheider). The film, shot entirely on location in New York City and the Hamptons, captures the picturesque setting and watering holes of the Hamptons to create the feel of a classic film noir in the style of the 1940s and ’50s.
