Tucked away on the westernmost point of the Rockaway Peninsula in Queens lies the town of Breezy Point. Its jetty is one of the area’s best spots for surfcasting, a form of fishing that takes place from the shoreline. The high winds and big surf from the Atlantic Ocean make the location a challenge, but one that can yield striped bass and bluefish at this time of year. Photographer Jay Gorman shot the view in early September. With sunny days still ahead, there’s every reason to pick up a rod and reel.
