German director Wim Wenders will lead the jury at this year’s Venice Film Festival, festival organizers announced Sunday.

Mr. Wenders, whose erratic but often acclaimed work includes “Paris, Texas” (1984), “Wings of Desire” (1987), and “Buena Vista Social Club” (1999), won the festival’s top award, the Golden Lion, for “The State of Things” in 1982. This year’s festival will be held from August 27 to September 6.
